Canadian Visitor Visa

Most foreign nationals, unless exempt, require a visitor visa to enter or transit through Canada.

The Canadian immigration officer may issue a single-entry or multiple-entry visa and decide how long it will be valid.

A visitor visa can be valid for up to 10 years, or until your passport or biometric data expires, whichever comes first.

If you do not receive a stamp in your passport, you may remain in Canada for 6 months from the date of entry or until your biometric data or passport expires, whichever comes first.

Most visitors can stay in Canada for up to 6 months. At the point of entry, border agents may authorize your stay for less or more than 6 months. In that case, they will note the departure date in your passport. They may also provide a document, called a Visitor Record, which will show your departure date.

Holders of the Super Visa for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents, who enter Canada after June 22, 2023, will be able to remain in Canada for 5 years.

If you need a stamp, you can request one from a border agent. If you arrive at an airport that uses primarily inspection kiosks, you can request a stamp from the border agent after you have finished going through the kiosk.
